MIX Elements

The Metadata for Images in XML Schema Standard (MIX) provides a framework for describing digital images, an area which has been neglected by other standards. MIX is only available in Draft Versions 0.1 or 0.2 and is a very new standard. LEADERS has only used a very small section of the MIX Standard and therefore the tag library only refers to those elements used. For more information about MIX and to view the innovative self-documenting schema go to http://www.loc.gov/standards/mix/.

For LEADERS purposes all these tags are used in the LEADERS EAD Schema within the <altformavail> element. The MIX tags are identified with the namespace prefix 'l-mix:' and are referenced from a schema fragment l-mix.xsd

This denotes a tag added to the MIX Schema by the LEADERS Project. This denotes a MIX tag modified by LEADERS. This denotes a tag used in compliance with the MIX Guidelines.

MIMEType

Element Description This designates the MIME type or file format of the image. In the case of LEADERS, this is jpeg or TIFF.
May occur within <l-ead:atlformavail> only.
May contain list of controlled values only: image/jpeg, image/tiff, image/gif, image/x-pcd, application/pdf

LEADERS Usage The content conforms to the MIX Schema.

Modified Tag

CompressionScheme

Element Description This denotes the compression scheme used to store the image.
May occur within <l-ead:altformavail> only.
May contain PCDATA only.
Attributes use
LEADERS Usage This element has been modified by LEADERS to display the actual value rather than a representative number. However, The original numbers can still be seen in the documentation tags.

ImageWidth

Element Description This specifies the width of the digital image, i.e. horizontal or X dimension, in pixels.
May occur within <l-ead:altformavail> only
May contain Positive integer only.
Attributes use
LEADERS Usage The content conforms to the MIX Schema.

ImageLength

Element Description This specifies the length of the digital image, i.e. vertical or Y dimension, in pixels..
May occur within <l-ead:altformavail> only
May contain Positive integer only.

Modified Tag

SourceType

Element Description This field specifies the medium of the source material.
May occur within <l-ead:altformavail> only.
May contain PCDATA only.
Attributes use
LEADERS Usage This tag within the MIX Schema is used to identify the original source material of the image, such as a book or letter etc. However, LEADERS uses this tag to identify the source of the jpeg file, which is its corresponding TIFF file, as opposed to the actual original source material.

Modified Tag

SourceID

Element Description A unique identifier for the source of the image.
May occur within <l-ead:altformavail> only.
May contain PCDATA only.
Attributes use
LEADERS Usage This tag is used within the MIX Schema to record a unique ID for the source of the original image. LEADERS uses this tag to record the file ID of the image source.

DeviceSource

Element Description This classifies the device used to create the digital image. In relation to the LEADERS Project, this would be Adobe Photoshop.
May occur within <l-ead:altformavail> only.
May contain PCDATA only.
Attributes use
LEADERS Usage The content conforms to the MIX Schema.
